Ms. Hayes has provided training and consultations to NDRN, ARC agencies and several Independent Living Centers. She was a co-trainer for the Abuse and Neglect Detection and Prevention Skills Training, Protection and Advocacy National Skills Building Conference in January, 2004. Ms. Hayes has also worked with state P&A's as both an expert witness and as a trainer and consultant.
She serves as expert consultant to the Quality Trust in Wash. D.C. on informed consent/guardianship issues. Ms. Hayes provided Expert Consultant services to U.S. Dept. of Justice for system review, community placement and risk management analysis. While at CMS, she served as an advisor to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Inspector General as they researched and wrote Reporting Abuses of Persons with Disabilities and Safeguarding DC Residents who have MR/DD: Responding to Allegations of Abuse and Neglect. |
Mr. Wiesel has provided leadership in the non-profit health care arena for the past fifteen years. He headed the team that successfully wrote and backed SB 472 (Petris, 1995) Neurological Degenerative Disorders Training and obtained annual State funding to implement programs targeting families affected by Huntington's Disease. He was awarded the Huntington’s Disease Society of America's Special Award for Advocacy in 1997.
Mr. Wiesel conducts workshops on self-, individual and system-advocacy. For the California Foundation of Independent Living Centers (CFILC), he developed and coordinated training for the “Statewide Systems Change and Community Education Grant" and the Assistive Technology (AT) Network grant programs focusing on both system and individual advocacy, community outreach, empowerment team development and diversity.
Mr. Wiesel has testified before both California Senate and Assembly committees in support of health care initiatives, family caregivers and the disability community in general.
